Douarnenez France. Winter storage for wooden boats.

The lovely city of Douarnenez France has become A home away from home for us. This magical waterside city is where we are keeping our wooden boat for the winter. I highly recommend it as a winter storage for any sailing boat on the Brittany coast. It is an exceptional place for wooden boats as there are so many around. Port Rhu has a lock and maintains a 4 meter depth. There are many chandleries, wood workers and repair specialists. 9 month storage coasts less then $1000 euros!

Sailing thru water. restoring and refinishing wooden boats and homes. Handcrafting a collection of last a lifetime- inheritable objects. ( worldsendny) Inspiration comes from the places we sail, the people we meet and the history of long ago.

  1. Hello! I love your posts! Tell me a bit more about the boat you are wintering for 1K euros in Douarnenez…how long? Old/new? On a trailer? What is your house like…in town, or outside? I’m interested as I would like to do what you are doing, get a place there, be able to leave a boat over winter. Is there a good site for finding used wooden boats, or do you really just have to show up? Can you recommend an estate agent? Thanks much.

    1. We do not own land there. We love love love the people country side and sailing! We sailed our boat there from usa. Uk was very very expensive , Mediterranean very very expensive. Douarnenez was cheap. Protected up the river and municipal elections marina watched for us. Wooden boats are kept in water in winter. There are many wooden boats there. Hiking is wonderful. You would need to go there and see for yourself.
